Demo "Controlling Depth Estimation" Wins Best Demo Award at VehicleSec 2026

2026.08.13

Our joint research team from The University of Electro-Communications, the University of Florida, and Keio University received the Best Demo Award at USENIX VehicleSec 2026, held in Baltimore, MD, USA in August 2026, for the demo “Controlling Depth Estimation in Stereo Cameras with Projected Patterns.”

The demo shows, on real hardware, that projected light patterns can deliberately manipulate the perceived depth of objects in stereo-camera depth estimation. It reveals vulnerabilities lurking in the stereo vision that autonomous vehicles rely on for distance measurement and highlights the need for countermeasures.
